Implant

Dental implants are an excellent solution for patients who are missing teeth as well as those who suffer with conventional dentures. And, there is no need to fear this procedure. Your comfort is always a top priority at Lukens Family Dental.

A dental implant could be described as an artificial tooth root that is surgically implanted into the jawbone. This process can aid in the replacing of one or more missing teeth using an implant with a dental prosthetic such as a crown, a fixed bridge, or snap on dentures. The implant material is typically pure titanium, which makes it extremely biocompatible. The jaw bone will treat the implant as if it were made out of bone. Over time, bone cells in the jaw are able to grow (called osseointegration), attach, and assimilate to the implant. After an initial healing period, the implant is uncovered and connected to an abutment that will serve as the foundation for your new tooth.

An implant is our current best option in restorative dentistry to replace a missing tooth. It consists of a titanium cylinder that is placed into the jaw and allowed to heal.  An impression is then taken to add an abutment (foundation) and then cement a crown over it. Implants do not affect adjacent teeth, have a natural appearance, will not decay, and are easy to clean around. Dental implants are also a great option to provide additional retention for complete dentures and partial dentures.
